Things To Include When Your Pet Is Cremated

The death of a pet can be one of the most difficult experiences that your family can go through. This can especially be true if your children are young and struggle with the concept of death. When you contact a local pet cremation service that will handle the cremation of your pet, one of the things that they'll ask you is if you want to include anything with the animal's body before the cremation process begins. Generally, you'll be allowed to include one or more small things with the pet, which may help with closure in some way — particularly for your kids. Here are some things that you can consider including.

Favorite Blanket 

Most pet cremation services will give you the option of supplying something in which your pet's body can be wrapped. Many families decide to use the pet's favorite blanket, a piece of its bedding, or something similar. If your pet had a blanket that is often used to enjoy sleeping on or playing with, it may provide some comfort to your family to know that this piece of material will be with your pet's body at the end.

Children's Artwork

Art can often help children to express themselves during times of grief, particularly when they're young. After your pet's death, your children may have created pieces of art that pay tribute to the pet. These images might include drawings of the children with their pet, or maybe of the pet entering heaven. Whatever the case, you may want to talk to your children about including this artwork with the pet's body before cremation. Your kids may feel that doing so is a final way to show their love to the pet.

It's possible that you might wish to write a short note to your pet. Perhaps you want to take a few minutes to jot down the things about your pet for which you're thankful — its companionship, its acceptance of your children when they joined your family, its protection, and more.
